How to Design Spiral Stair Case

When you remodel your home, consider include designing a spiral stair case to add dramatically to the living room or dining twist. Note the diameter of the staircase. You must take into account the same amount of space above and below. Consider the amount of traffic that the ladder will have to endure. Ask an inspector of work if the building code requires a minimum diameter.

Measure the height from floor to floor. Make sure the top and bottom of the ladder is at least two inches from the floor and ceiling. Decide what the width of the steps. Make the top of the spiral stair case more than twice the width of the step. Decide how much space should separate each baluster. You must choose smaller spaces so that children do not fall through them.

For a full circle, just consider the number of treads and risers. Select the type of ladder, like winding spiral stair case, spiral stacked spiral dome or rectangular spirals. Consult the building code in your city to see the minimum height of the railing.
